The Islands body of work uses primarily opalescent glass which is fused with different sizes of glass pieces to achieve a series of islands in a larger mass of colour
Occasionally iridescent layers of transparent glass are added to create depth and dancing colour between the opaque islands
Often tiny particles of glass are painstakingly placed to create the overall shape and pieces are kiln fired, in layers, to build up the required depth of colour and texture too. Contrasting colous keep the interest in these often simple pieces
Metal inclusions play a large role in these glass vessels as they react with the base glasses in the heat and produce halos of colour dependant on the available oxygen during processing.
